Each 3D printed ceramic door knob is shaped by a parametric algorithm that generates forms randomly through code. No two designs are identical – the code defines the rules, randomness defines the form.

The Layramic project sits at the intersection of generative design, computational art and ceramic 3D printing. The three forms in the Koumbi collection – star, coral and spiral – are not drawn by hand. They are computed: a parametric script runs through thousands of possible configurations and selects a unique combination for each piece. The result is a 3D printed ceramic door knob that is as much a piece of design research as it is a functional object.

THE MAKING OF LAYRAMIC 3D PRINTED CERAMIC DOOR KNOBS

Once the parametric form is generated by the code, each Koumbi 3D printed ceramic door knob is produced in our Brussels studio through a three-step process: clay extrusion, kiln firing and hand finishing. The ceramic is extruded layer by layer following the digitally generated path – capturing every detail of the algorithmically computed form in stoneware clay.

After printing, the 3D printed ceramic door knob is kiln-fired to harden the clay and seal the surface. Each piece is then hand-finished in our Brussels studio. The knobs are available in three colours – black, white and transparent – giving you full control over how the Layramic piece integrates into your interior design.

A COLLABORATION BETWEEN STUDIO MINIMETRE AND GUILLAUME SLIZEWICZ

The Layramic project was born from a shared fascination with generative design and the creative potential of code. Guillaume Slizewicz developed the parametric algorithm that generates the Koumbi forms – exploring how randomness and mathematical rules can produce shapes of extraordinary beauty and complexity. Studio Minimetre brought these digital forms into the physical world through ceramic 3D printing, transforming computed geometry into handcrafted objects.

This collaboration between a digital designer and a ceramic 3D printing studio is a perfect example of what happens when code meets clay – when the infinite possibilities of generative design are grounded in the material reality of ceramic fabrication in Brussels.

KOUMBI – FEATURES

3D printed ceramic door knobs with parametrically generated forms

Collaboration: Studio Minimetre x Guillaume Slizewicz (Layramic project)

3 forms: star, coral, spiral – each generated by code

3 colours: black, white, transparent

Designed and manufactured in Brussels, Belgium

Zero waste: material from the catering waste recycling chain

Perfect for furniture, interior design or as a unique gift

Discover our full Ceramic Objects collection, explore our Collaborations or visit our Laboratory to learn more about our research into generative design and ceramic 3D printing. Contact us to order your Koumbi 3D printed ceramic door knobs.

Layramic – 3D Printed Ceramic Door Knobs Brussels | Studio Minimetre x Guillaume Slizewicz KOUMBI – 3D PRINTED CERAMIC DOOR KNOBS FROM THE LAYRAMIC PROJECT Koumbi is a collection of 3D printed ceramic door knobs born from the Layramic research project – a collaboration between Studio Minimetre and designer Guillaume Slizewicz.
